Storing Palettes

Storing Palettes!

Eye shadow palettes are so handy but they can take up a lot of room when you are trying to store them. While re-organsing I found one solution which worked great for me.

I decided to use a toast holder to organise my palettes! I had one lying unused around the house and saw this as a perfect opportunity to get some use out of it.

It has saved me loads of space on my makeup shelf and I can still see all the different palettes at a glance.

I hope this has given you some ideas for storing your eye shadow palettes !

DIY Make up brush storage

Storing and organising your eye makeup brushes

An easy way to store your make up brushes is by placing them in a jar with rice or coffee beans. I loved this idea but I decided to replace the rice/ coffee beans with beads left over from my bracelet making days.

I felt the beads gave it a splash of colour and glam!  Now I can see my brushes easily while I'm doing my makeup.

Hope this gives you guys some inspiration for storing your own eye makeup brushes!

As always, thanks for reading!

DIY storage for Make up

Easy storage tips

Storing small make up such as lipsticks, lip gloss and eye pencils can be a pain. It is nice to be able to see what is what at a glance rather than hunting around in a box or makeup bag. I decide to try using glass ware to store my products and it has worked well so far so I thought I would share it with you guys.

The two smaller glass jars are recycled yogurts pots that I was hanging on to for ages and finally I found a purpose for them! The larger container was originally a sweet jar.

Hope this gives you some inspiration for your makeup storage. You can guess what I will be using my jam jars for once they're finished!

Make up Make Up Everywhere...

Organising and Storing Beauty Products

With the new year comes new resolutions and one of mine was to get organised! One of the messiest areas of my room was my make up and beauty products. I had some in the bathroom, some on my desk and some scattered around the room. I was in desperate need of organisation. My main problem was storage space so I put up a new shelving unit and now the only problem was how to sort and store my beauty products on these shelves! I didn't want to spend a fortune on make up dividers and special boxes so I used items I had already.

File Stands/  Document Pigeonholes

I have a number of these lying around left over from my days in college and decided instead of them being a dumping place for documents and papers which I was too lazy to file away I would allocate them a new function- holders for hair appliances!

It didn't turn out too bad in the end although I'm wondering how functional it will be over time (meaning, after I use my hair dryer will I put it away- or be too lazy and leave it on the floor like I normally do? )

I have loads more items to store away so hopefully I will have a few more tips and tricks for you soon :)

I hope this helps!

Long Lasting Make up

Long Lasting Make-up

A good base is key!

It is always a good idea to have a good base for make-up and so today I will be discussing Foundation, Concealer and Powder

Formula Daily Care
I always start my make-up regime in the morning by using a gentle cleanser and then applying moisturizer. I leave the moisturizer for ten minutes to make sure it has fully soaked in. During this time I might start on my hair if I am a bit pushed for time. Alternatively you could use a good night cream the night before if your skin is not prone to dryness. The night cream I use at the moment is working well for me- Formula Daily Care. It is always important to keep your skin hydrated, especially before applying make-up.
Seventeen Primer

Next I apply primer. See a review for the primer I use here. Primer is a new addition to my make-up bag and I use it on the days I know I need my make up to be long lasting. I find it is best to apply it with a brush a little bit at a time otherwise it tends to dry too quickly and become flakey which is a pain.

I then move on to my foundation. See a review of my foundation here.. I usually mixed two different foundations together to get the colour I want, especially if I have one expensive foundation which I don't want to use heaps of at a time. I always use a foundation brush to apply the foundation and then a beauty blender sponge on any areas that need some extra blending.
Match Perfection

Concealers

I then use concealer to conceal any blemishes. I also use a highlighting conceal under my eyes to make them look brighter and more fresh.

If I was going to wear eye shadow that day I would apply it at this stage. It is easier to get rid of fallout from eye shadow with a foundation brush at this stage rather than afterwards when you have set your make up with powder.

Next is contouring and highlighting. I still find this step a little scary so I do tend to only use very light colours when contouring. For me - less is more!

Finally I set my face with translucent powder using a kabuki brush.

I find that the moisturizer and primer help to keep the foundation in place for longer as does the translucent powder. I would always follow these steps if I knew I had a day and night commitment and would not have time to re-apply make up between the two.

Do you guys have any tips or tricks to add for long lasting make up?

Saying thank you

Saying thank you this Christmas

One of the wonderful things about gift giving and receiving over Christmas is the opportunity to say thank you to all those who have given you thoughtful gifts. I love sending and receiving post and find a hand-made card gives a personal touch that a text or email seems to lack. This year I have decided to try my hand at calligraphy for the first time.

I still need practice but I am hoping to incorporate calligraphy in my thank you cards this year.

What do you guys think? Has post become a thing of the past? Do you still get excited about getting a letter in the mail that isn't a bill ?

Maybe I am just old fashioned!
